No Room

Have you ever felt there was no room for you? Have you ever felt the hurting or suffering are an afterthought in our churches or society? An inconvenience to be tolerated for sure, but with no place made for them? for you?

There was no room for them in the inn. Luke 2

You're not alone. There was no room for Jesus, nor his weary parents. The Savior of the world was for a moment a seeming afterthought or inconvenience, overlooked by all but the lowly animals with whom he shared a bed. A manger.

Again, I ask you. Have you ever felt as though there is no room for you? your sorrow? your anxieties, your past sins? your grief? your temptations? your brokenness? your weary family? your loneliness? your unmet longings? Dear one, Jesus knows. There's room in the manger with Jesus.

When the rest of the world turned a blind eye to a weary young mother and a baby born in a shelter for animals, ignorant that one day that baby would be a shelter for all mankind: God saw. God was there, and the hosts of heavenly angels filled the sky with praise. They sang a song heralding the Savior born in obscurity to a group of lowly shepherds. These shepherds were also overlooked and often viewed as inconvenient and offensive to society's comforts and sensibilities.

Heaven saw them!

Heaven saw Mary, a weary young mother exhausted from childbirth in the most primitive of places.

Heaven saw Joseph, a man who had the courage of obedience. Yet I wonder if in that moment as he gazed upon straw, animals, and a post birthing scene he wondered if he measured up. After all, they had no accommodations to speak of for Mary to give birth to this baby now wrapped in scraps of cloth.

Heaven saw Jesus, the Savior of the world, relegated to a manger and eventually a cross.

When no one else had eyes to see, nor had any room. Heaven did and still does.

The God of all Heaven and earth sees you.

There is room for you in the manger. You will not be wrapped in scraps of cloth, but in the grace, mercy, and compassion of Christ. Come.
