A Prayer for My Children

A few years ago I decided to get each of my children a journaling Bible. In this Bible I would read over particular passages of scripture and then pray those scriptures over my child in written form. This has been such a blessing to me and my children love for me to get these Bibles out, read aloud a passage, then watch me write a prayer for them. When I’m done they want the prayer read aloud to them. Honestly, they often keep me accountable in doing this.

Today one of my sons opened his Bible to Job 42. At first I was a little nervous. Job isn’t generally where I go to for this, but God’s Word is always applicable in some form or fashion. It is alive. Below is the prayer from verses 1-9 the Lord laid on my heart for all my children. I’m sharing it on the chance that perhaps this is also a prayer of your momma heart as well.

“Father, may our children hold fast to Truth: Your Truth. Even amid sufferings unmentionable or voices of (either well or ill intended) friends pouring forth falsehood or unbiblical comforts or convictions. May our children have a correct and humble understanding of you and who they are.

May they not only hear you or read of you but may they see your hand in their life and know you intimately. May Your Truth, Your Word, saturate their hearts so they may recognize lies of the enemy or the world.

May our children be the friend to humbly guide others in Your Truth with conviction. May they prayerfully intercede for those they call friend. May they be a “Job”.

But Father, if my child is the one who strays from your truth be merciful, O Lord. Send them a “Job” to prayer over and for them; to speak truth before him or her.

Thank you for the power of Your Word and the power of godly friendships in our lives. May our children establish deep friendships rooted in the common bond of a love for You and Your Word.”
